I never meant to notice him like that.
It started with the way he moved—confident, fluid, like the ocean itself had taught him how to walk. I’d come to the beach that summer to clear my head, to escape the noise of my own life. My sister had invited me, said her husband’s family owned a little cottage near the dunes. I didn’t expect to spend so much time watching the lifeguard tower.
Watching him.
Jason was my sister’s husband’s baby brother. Nineteen, maybe twenty. Younger than me, but not in any way that mattered when he stood on that tower, scanning the waves with a kind of quiet intensity. His face was sun-kissed and serious, framed by damp curls and the red of his lifeguard shirt. He didn’t smile much, but when he did—usually at some kid building a sandcastle or a surfer wiping out—it felt like the whole beach tilted toward him.
He wasn’t vain. That was the worst part. Or maybe the best. He didn’t seem to know how beautiful he was. He’d jog barefoot across the sand, whistle sharply to get someone’s attention, dive into the surf without hesitation. All function. All focus. No performance.
I admired that. I admired him.
And then I hated myself for it.
He was family. Sort of. Not by blood, but close enough that it felt wrong. My sister adored her husband, and their family had always been kind to me. Jason had helped me carry groceries once, asked about my art, complimented a sketch I’d left on the porch table. I’d laughed too hard at something he said, and later, alone in my room, I’d replayed the moment like a guilty secret.
I told myself it was just admiration. That I was drawn to the way he did his job, the way he seemed untouched by the self-consciousness that plagued so many people our age. But then I’d catch myself watching the way his shoulder blades shifted when he climbed the tower ladder, or how his eyes softened when he spoke to a crying child, and I’d feel that ache again.
Not lust. Not love. Something quieter. Something I didn’t know how to name.
One evening, as the sun dipped low and the beach emptied out, I lingered near the tower. Jason was packing up, his silhouette sharp against the orange sky. He looked over and waved, casual, friendly. I waved back, heart thudding like I’d done something wrong.
I left early the next morning.
I never told anyone. Not my sister. Not Jason. Not even myself, not really. I buried the feJasonng in sand and salt and silence, hoping the tide would take it away.
But sometimes, when I sketch lifeguard towers or draw figures in motion, I realize I’m still trying to capture something I saw that summer. Something I wasn’t supposed to feel.
And maybe that’s what makes it real.
I watched Jason again today, padding across the sun-warmed tiles like he always does—barefoot, careless, as if the ground were made for him. My young brother-in-law, all limbs and laughter, trailing dust and stories behind him. He never wears shoes. Not in the house, not in the yard, not even when the pavement sizzles like a skillet in July.
His feet are strange things. Beautiful… damn-near edible! I don’t mean that in a grotesque way. I mean they look like something that belongs in a bakery window. The soles, browned and calloused, remind me of toasted pita. His toes, round and slightly pink, like dumplings left to steam. There’s a softness to them, despite the wear. A kind of resilience that only comes from walking the world without armor.
I wonder if he knows. If he’s ever looked down and thought, my seasoned feet look good enough to eat. If he’s ever noticed the way they seem to absorb the earth and give back warmth. He walks like someone who’s never been told to be careful. Like someone who trusts the ground to catch him, no matter how rough.
Sometimes I envy that. The way he moves through space without apology. The way his feet tell stories mine have forgotten—of mud puddles and gravel paths, of summer grass and kitchen tiles. He’s young, yes, but it’s not just youth. It’s something else. Something baked into him.
I caught myself staring today. He was perched on the counter, eating mango slices with his fingers, one foot tucked beneath him, the other dangling like a ripe fruit. I wanted to ask, Do you know your feet look good enough to eat? But I didn’t. I just smiled and offered him another slice.
He ate and ate and eventually fell asleep on one of the sofa. He had told me he was going out for a jog, but like Garfield the cat, whenever he felt an urge to exercise, he’d lie down until that urge passed.
I stumbled upon him and automatically my dick stiffened at the sight of his sleeping form. Still, I wanted to sit down somewhere, for I was dead tired from a day of hiding and running away from my ex-girlfriend, a delusional bubblehead who couldn't get it through her skull that I wasn't into her (or any other girl) despite a thousand dropped hints. The only place to sit in the entire room was occupied at the present time by the snoozing lifeguard. This sleeping stud was stretched out on the small couch, his size-eleven Adidas running shoe-clad feet hanging over the end. I walked over to him and carefully lifted his feet, making myself a place on the couch next to him. I rested his feet back on my legs and laid my head back.
What a sweet sight. Jason’s Adidas-clad feet were resting on my legs. I don't know what got into me, but I carefully pulled one sneaker off his foot and then the other. Tossing each carelessly to the floor after having given each a good sniff. The sweaty aroma wafting from the lifeguard’s warm, slightly sweat-dampened socks filled my nostrils and caused my dick to spring even more to life. I leaned down till my nose was only inches from the snoozing young lifeguard's toes. I took a deep whiff and grew dizzy from the wonderfully pungent odor of his socked toes.
Without thinking I started rubbing them. I massaged the youth's white sock-clad toes and the balls of his feet and then worked my way down to his heels. I worked on each one, rubbing and massaging them while the Spanish sleeper cooed and mumbled without awakening. I carefully slid off each sock. As with his sneaks, I sniffed each deeply before tossing them to the floor.
Then I refocused my attention on Jason’s now bare feet. I couldn’t believe what I was doing! I don’t know what gave me the courage to do this!
I also don’t know how long I massaged and played with the lifeguard's sleepy-but-wiggly bare toes. My fingers rubbed and playfully tweaked those supple golden digits. They were ticklish too. Even though the lifeguard slept on those toes wiggled like crazy every time I worked my fingertips in between them.
I had to lick his soles. They were so beautiful that my tongue was sliding all over and across them before I knew what was happening. I licked that salty-sweaty flesh and heard the lifeguard's drowsy giggles as I got the soles of his feet all slick and shiny with my saliva. Then it was my tongue that rediscovered his toes ... and they wriggled like mad as I licked hungrily between them!
Yes, Jason’s feet were good enough to eat. Heck, I believe it was only the release of jizz from my rock-hard ejaculating dick that kept me from doing it! I shot a load right in my pants while probing between the lifeguard's toes with my wild, ravenous tongue.
While I was doing this, Jason gasped, awoke with a start and stared at me with a look of utter confusion!
I had some explaining to do.
